Rain in brittany on a windy winter day. I built this sound by mixing several field recordings made on the same spot: a small wood in the south of the region. These recordings had different focuses: some were more wind-oriented, others had more rain. . . Instead of publishing these individual takes, i chose to mix them in order to create a soundscape that would vary in density, depth and spacing. Recorded with a zoom h2n in x/y stereo mode. Mixed in nuendo 2. Mastered in sound forge 8.

This is a recording of me, walking on the sidewalk of a road during heavy rain and wind. The cars passing me is driving through the water. I am using a røde blimp with deadcat in my hand, containing a sennheiser mkh 416 and a ambient ate 308 emesser in a ms-stereo setup. I recorded this from a balcony (5th floor) in the middle of a summer day (end of july), using a mid/side set (mkh30 + c480 b-uls/ck62-df omni) into sound devices mixpre3. Not any processing has been added, except a plain m/s to x/y stereo conversion and low-cut filter (30hz). This is a generally quiet atmo, sometimes light wind comes in, some seagulls and other birds are there at times, some construction work happens etc. The traffic noise is present, but in the distant way. A big carton board was held by two people, and then shaken to produce the deep rumbling sound. Various ways of shaking and holding it, resulted in a very close thunder sound. A zoom h6 recorder, with the xy capsule was used to record it, inside of a classroom.

Outside my gym is a large tree or bush and every night in the summer months a swarm of sparrows invades the bush. Hundreds of birds disappear into the thick hedge for the night. The sound is unique and overwhelming. There is an sporadic wind sound but a few long sections without.

A recording of, to me at least, is the symbolic sound of the later summer woods, when the blue jays become more vocal. These beautiful birds stay here in southern illinois all year long, and are a welcome flash of color and blue crest once autumn begins arriving. Now, i have always thought this call of the blue jay is not the prettiest or melodic at all; in fact, hearing the call of a blue jay can be a bit unnerving. . . The sound of southampton water at around 5am on a bank holiday monday (national holiday). The microphone was placed right at the shoreline where the water meets the land. There are distant boats/ships, the oil refinery and a few sea birds. There was no wind at all when i first turned up, so i could use the microphone without any wind protection at all. Something went wrong with the audio! first i was going to record the sound of the wind. I placed the equipment, checked the audio and left. As i came back i realized that the audio file is full of interference!first i was quite angry about it, but then i thought that it is a pretty good sound effect!.

What a storm last night! it was already dark outside as i saw lighting in the distance. It was kind of a scary situation but for sound i thought it will be awesome! i opened the balcony door and rolled down the 30 years old window blind ( i have a sound of this blind here on the channel) behind the window blind i started recording how the rain hammered against the blind! you can also listen to the wind between the units on this blind! i also recorded with the go pro the outside so that you can see the thunder, the rain and the lightning!.
